Yvano Wickham-Edwards

Yvano Wickham-Edwards (Yvano Antonio) is a Canadian film director best known for the Canadian Screen Award winning documentary Being Black In Toronto.Yvano is also well known for his set photography on the two-time Canadian Screen Award winning documentary Mr. Jane & Finch.In 2019, Yvano made his directorial debut at the 15th annual Montreal International Black Film Festival, premiering the short documentary Black.Black has been selected in 11 film festivals since its debut and won Best Documentary at the 2021 Emerging Lens Cultural Film Festival. The film was also nominated for best VFX & color and best editing of a Canadian short doc at the 2020 Hollywood North Film Awards.Black now streams in an episode of Absolutely Canadian on CBC Gem titled Being Black In Toronto.Following the CBC premiere, Being Black In Toronto has been selected in a number of film festivals across North America and won Best Youth Film at the 2020 Gary International Black Film Festival.In May 2021, Yvano won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Direction, Documentary Series for Being Black in Toronto.
