Suzanne Moreau believes creative self-expression is a fingerprint of the soul. She entered her second career in filmmaking in 2018. Previously, while raising a family and working full time in the public service, she found expression in performing and visual arts. Since retiring in 2015, she boomeranged back to her artistic roots, grounded in her BFA (1979) in visual art, and a decade of Conservatory of Music classical voice training and background acting. Now she creates visual stories through the female gaze as a writer, director, producer and production designer of independent film. Her goal is to amplify the voices of women and girls and bring about a more equitable and just society. Her scripts feature females who must rebel against forces that deny their self-actualization, simply because they're female. She hopes to shift society's perception of female potential through visual storytelling in film. Screenwriting: She's won awards and recognition for her un-produced short screenplays that enjoy a high selection/finalist rate at international screenwriting festivals: "Bagg-age" won 'Best New Screenwriter' in LA's Festigious Festival; "Ginny's Enterprise" was a finalist in New York Women, and Vancouver International Film Festivals; "Blood Buddies" was a Top 5 finalist in CineSpark, the Pacific Rim Short Circuit Festival (2021); and CineVic screened her One-Take Super8 micro-short "Ersatz Cats" (2021) and selected it for a showcase at the Victoria Film Festival (2022). Future projects in development are her full feature historical fiction, "Yukon Blonde", and a dystopian future series pilot and first episode, "Sour Plums". Filmmaking: In 2021 she directed and produced her first female-forward, coming of age drama, "Blood Buddies" (2022), and is anticipating its world premiere on the festival circuit. From 2019-2021 she collaborated on several CineVic members' indie films as a writer, director, assistant director, producer, casting director, art director, set designer and/or costume designer. Her screenwriting and filmmaking are a synergy of her BFA in visual art, decades of photography and performing arts practice, acting education, CineVic Incubators Programs, and Masterclass, and are grounded in her public service to BC, Canada. Her career as a researcher and evaluator of social policy and programs contributed towards a more just and equitable society in areas including justice (relationship violence, dangerous offenders), and education (Aboriginal, Gender Equity) and forms a foundation to her artistic expression in narrative fiction. When she is not expressing herself creatively, she can be found bicycle touring, dancing to Latin beats, or frolicking in the garden with her family, fur-babies, and friends.
