Joy Haskell (she/her) is an Indigenous Filmmaker, Screenwriter and Director based in Vancouver. She was an Associate Story Editor for Season 1 on Ron E. Scott's TV series "TRIBAL" which aired on APTN and is an alumna of Banff Media Festival's Diversity of Voices Initiative in 2018 and 2021. Joy's most recent achievement is being selected for the Canadian Academy Directors Program for Women 2021/22. After completing her feature film script through the Women In Film and Television Vancouver Tricksters and Writers Program for Indigenous Women, the project, "Cookies or Crack", is now receiving support through the highly competitive CFC/Netflix Project Development Accelerator. Joy was also granted a mentorship through WIFTV Vancouver to attend the Whistler Film Festival with "Cookies or Crack" as part of their Film Market Preparation Program where she was also part of the Women In Focus Series. The project has now received CMF and Telefilm development support. She is a recent alumna of Women in the Director's Chair having received the 2021 Banff Media Festival Fellowship Award as part of the Career Advancement Module. In 2019, Joy created, wrote, directed and produced the comedy short "Hey Cuzzin" starring Evan Adams with the help of Telus Storyhive in conjunction with Creative BC. "Hey Cuzzin" premiered in 2019 at imagineNATIVE Film Festival where Joy also did a Creator Talk, and it premiered in the US at LA Skins Fest where it played at the historic TCL Chinese Theatre. In 2020 "Hey Cuzzin" screened at the UK Spirit Fest and was chosen by the Curators at the American Museum in the UK for Native American Heritage Month. The project is now being developed as a half-hour comedy series with Andrew Carr (Corner Gas), and has also generated a spinoff web series now in development. Joy's most recent credit includes two social media videos for the David Suzuki Foundation. In 2020, Joy started her own production company called Firediva Productions, through which she is developing a feature film and two original tv series. Prior to writing and directing, her background is in theatre, specializing in acting, singing and dancing.
