Jaime Garzón was a Colombian lawyer, pedagogue, humorist, activist, actor, announcer, journalist and mediator of peace. He served as Junior Mayor of Sumapaz, locality No. 20 of Bogotá, during the administration of Mayor of Bogotá Andrés Pastrana Arango (1988 - 1990), and did social work on behalf of the National Government during the term of César Gaviria Trujillo (1990 - 1994). His entry into the national media would make him a well-known figure and the pioneer of political humor on Colombian television. He played an important role in the peace processes of the 1990s in Colombia and in the release of hostages in power from the FARC-EP and the ELN guerrillas, but this humanitarian management and its calls to conscience and reflection on the bad that is happening in Colombia attracted enemies to high levels of power. On August 13, 1999, he was assassinated in Bogotá by two assassins near the studios of the Radionet radio station where he worked. On different occasions, Garzón had stated that he was the victim of death threats. During the judicial process, the defense argued that there were deviations in the investigation by the Administrative Department of Security (DAS), the former state security agency, in convenience with renowned politicians and members of the Military Forces. Jaime Garzón's death is another case of a state crime in Colombia that remains unsolved.
