Rebellious reporter, posh English businesswoman, a pusher, human rights activist, a person fighting depression, femme fatale, a victim of domestic violence, spoiled movie star, a badass mafia boss and an American teenager are some of the strong female characters Tomiek has already portrayed since turning professionally to acting. Yet her beginnings go far back in time. Ivona Tomiek started performing when she was five years old. She has appeared in plays, ballets and musicals and was a successful child performer, which led to her formal education in music, dance and drama. She has trained classical singing (she is a mezzo-soprano) and ballet for years, trained various sports, played the piano and was taught Stanislavski's system (Method acting) and classical acting as part of her acting studies. She is a versatile actress drawn to portraying taxing and strong female characters with experience in both theatre and on-screen. Tomiek is also a polyglot fluent in seven languages and conversational in several others, as well as a linguist with a university degree.
