Philip Johnson

Philip Johnson is a 27-year old Black Film/TV Producer/Writer/Actor/Director from Detroit, Michigan. Based in Los Angeles, Philip creates films and shows primarily focused on bringing unique creative light to the Black LGBTQ+ community. With a Bachelor's of Business Administration from the University of Michigan, Johnson has been building Philaye Films into a studio creating and producing Black, Queer shows and films. Getting his start from the 2018 YouTube web-series, "Black Sex & the City", Johnson has always focused on utilizing fun and entertainment to drive conversations surrounding all-too-real LGBTQ+ topics. Philip grew up as a closeted track athlete in the Black church town of Detroit, Michigan. He moved to the creative world after quitting University of MIchigan's track team midway through college and starting work for a fashion organization. He has since produced and premiered pilots, films, web-series, etc. Blowing up on social media in 2021 from his viral "Gays as ___" comedy mini-series, Johnson's art has been helping to educate diverse crowds on the multi-faceted, dynamic experience of being Black & gay in this world. Johnson has received the honor of the 2022 Influencer of Excellence Award from SpeakOut's "IAM" Awards. As Philaye Films grows as a studio, Philip plans to continue creating positive conversations, spaces and opportunities for our marginalized communities.
