A.K. Sandhu is an Oakland-based, Desi-American Director, Producer, Cinematographer, and internationally published Photographer. She was awarded the 2021 Emerging Artist Award in the State of California. A.K. tells stories that tackle the complexities of our perceived differences and inspire deeper understandings about human connections. She employs filmmaking to revive narratives that have been buried or suppressed. Her work crosses into experimental docu-hybrid modes of storytelling, probing themes such as race, gender, spirituality, and cross-cultural solidarity. A.K. premiered her documentary short, For Love And Legacy, at Pan African Film Festival 2022 and won the Special Programmer's Award. She is also the Co-Director, Producer, and Co-DP of her first documentary feature, Sign My Name To Freedom, and is developing a series on the women and children of the Black Panther Party.
