Ludovico Cantisani (Rome, 2001) is a director, movie scholar and essayist. After attending writing and video journalism courses at major venues such as the Scuola Holden and LUISS, he made his debut as a director and producer at the age of 17 with the short film Penelopes, a loose adaptation of Joyce's Ulysses sponsored by the James Joyce Italian Foundation; Penelopes marked the beginning of a collaboration with the great director of photography Luciano Tovoli who is also co-producer of the project. With a multifaceted humanistic background, Cantisani had a long collaboration with the Italian-Irish publishing house Artdigiland, which specializes in the fields of cinema and theater: he has published several essays and interview books on cinema for Artdigiland, including L'Apocalisse è un festa, an archetypical study of science fiction cinema. He is also deeply familiar with the world of theater and between 2019 and 2020 participated in a European dramaturgy workshop held by PAV (Fabulamundi) in Italy, Poland and Romania. He writes for some of the most important movie magazines in Italy, such as Birdmen Magazine and Bianco & Nero, published by Rome's Centro Sperimentale della Cinematografia. A long-time collaborator of production and post-production company Augustus Color, a multinational holding with headquarters in Italy, Spain and Morocco, in 2020 has founded together with Simone Marra Ithaka Productions S.r.l., a movie production company equipped for the tax credit. In parallel to his career in the movie industry, Cantisani has also an important curriculum as philosophy scholar, and is a member of Italian René Girard Study Center; his essays about philosophy and literature have been published on prestigious magazines such as minimaetmoralia, mimesis.scenari and Limina Rivista. As an essayist, his main interests concern the end of the rituals, the ambiguities of the secularism and the theoretical possibility of a non-Jungian archetypical theory.
