Paula Kirman is an Edmonton-based filmmaker, writer, musician, and photographer who explores themes of human rights and social justice in her work. She has created a number of short documentaries, music videos, and short artistic films on topics such as social housing, community media, and human rights. As a songwriter and composer, she has received numerous awards for her work, especially her lyrics, including being a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition. She has also received a number of awards for her social justice and media work, including: Best Activist in 2018 VUE Weekly's "Best of Edmonton." Award of Merit for Advocacy of Social Justice, Edmonton Social Planning Council (May 2018) Edmonton Arts Council Project Grant (November 2018). Human Rights Champion, John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights (December 2016). Daughter of the Year Award at Daughters Day, presented by Canadians for a Civil Society (September 2014). Salvos Prelorentzos Peace Award from Project Ploughshares Edmonton (November 2012).
