Nadia J. Bonomo is a producer, writer and director of film, TV and digital content. Adopted as an infant of two Italian migrant parents living in Australia, it was natural that her first language Italian, would cause quite a stir in the 80's. It was also a normal occurrence for Nadia to explain her story to curious strangers from a young age with great flair and gusto. Raised on stories of her mother's life in post-war Italy and her experiences of migrating to Australia in the 60's during the 'White Australia Policy', she developed an active imagination and as soon as she could write, Nadia went on to tell stories of her own. Penning her first play in elementary school, despite being undiagnosed with dyslexia at the time, she found great confidence and love for the written medium. As an only child she spent most of her days playing pretend, drawing, writing plays, short stories and watching TV. After finding father's old 8mm camera in a dusty box she was introduced to the world of filmmaking. These passions continued into her senior years of high school focusing on all artistic mediums. At 16 she decided to join a pilot youth program with her local Council (15-25yrs) under the guidance of Colleen Burke, whilst completing her VCE. This is where the opportunity arose to write and star in their first multimedia theatre production First Impressions. With the success of the play's run and media interest, the new youth theatre company was able to receive full funding. In 1999 with the same theatre troupe Nadia wrote and co-directed a modernised interactive version of Aladdin to rave reviews. She went on to study at Victoria University, Small Company and Community Theatre Diploma course, but Film and TV was her true passion. Doing a TV producing and scriptwriting Diploma course online. She was inspired to create her first pilot script, an edgy soap opera drama, 'Life of the Other Half' (2011). Nadia's first breakout project is an acclaimed web series using that same script, which she rewrote, co-produced and directed. A 12 part drama/mockumentary style series, which follows the intricate and demanding life of five friends. The socially captivating casting was a mix of MTV'S The Hills and similar series that broke the fourth wall rule. The series regularly rated amongst other successful web series from the U.S reaching the Top 10 trending series at the time. Launching her small boutique production company 'Mister Sister Productions' the previous year with her producing partner Peter Kalaitzakis. She has continued to create, produce and showcase all her projects with great determination and steady diligence. In 2012 she co-produced and was a script consultant on two short films that year, a suspenseful drama 'Searching for Connor' (2012), a complex and emotive story dealing with a couple's loss of their child and postpartum depression, and an experimental silent drama short called 'Homeless' (2021), which was shot in 12 hrs. Which highlights the neglected and voiceless masses of the homeless population, outlining that homelessness is just a step away for all. The triple threat then kick-started her career into television series called 'Bite Size Pictures' (2015), a light entertainment/informative program that acknowledged, celebrated, and supported local independent filmmakers and film-related practitioners within the industry. Featuring award winning filmmakers like Adam Elliot, Angie Black, Richard Franklin, Sarah Barton to Film festival directors like Paul Harris (St Kilda Film Festival) and Lisa Daniel (MQFF) and CEOs of film-related companies from Coptercam, Stuntdriving School, AACM (Aust Academy Cinemagraphic Make-Up) airing prime-time in 2016 as a 7-part TV series, which was later syndicated to other states. In 2018 she wrote and produced a 1 hour TV special called 'Inside the Filmmakers Minds' (2018), that featured a panel of award winning rising talent filmmakers and veteran directors discussing various topics. She has since gone onto collaborating and developing more TV series with other directors and overseas producers.
