I was born in 1979 in Quito, Ecuador. In 1999 I moved to the United States to finish college, and then got a PhD in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign in 2013. After researching and teaching about culture, food and health for 9 years, in 2012 I founded the educational project "Comidas que Curan" (Foods that Heal) to document and promote value of traditional food culture in Latin(o) America. Out of this project were born several food documentaries including Raspando coco (2018), which I directed. In November 2018, I started working on a new documentary project about artisanal fishing in the coast of Ecuador. I love to travel, teach and research about food culture, history, health, aging and non-violent communication. I have lived in Cuba, Ecuador, Argentina, and Japan and the United States. In my free time, I study Japanese, practice yoga/meditation and I am a volunteer conflict mediator and coach.
