Staffan Winbergh, born 1945 in Stockholm, is a Swedish filmmaker, screenwriter, photographer, producer, editor and musician. During his education at Solbacka High School at Stjärnehov he formed a pop group, Steampacket, with his classmates Mikael Ramel, Rolf Scherrer and Stefan Ekeström. When Steampacket started recording in 1965 they became aware of the British super-group Steampacket, featuring Rod Stewart and Julie Driscoll, and consequently change their name of the band to Steampacket II. When touring England they were called The Longboatmen. Winbergh attended Christer Strömholm's school of photography 1970-73. His first documentary was a portrait of Tibet's spiritual leader Dalai Lama made in 1974. During the rest of the 70's and the 80's he was mainly hired as photographer by Swedish media. In the 90's he returned to filmmaking, first as a cinematographer and editor, later as screenwriter, director and producer. In 1998 his documentary "Med ett ben i evigheten" about the unique bohemian Arne Ottoson received an award at the Prix Circom in Cork, Ireland. Two years later "Född i en likkista" about the undertaker Sonja Malmberg was recognized and appreciated after being screened on SVT2.
