Katy Burk was born August 7, 1983 in Hollywood, CA to Robert and Susan Burk, a taxi cab driver and data entry specialist. During her early years her mother stayed at home with her, helping her to learn to read and write at a very young age, which lead to Katy hosting story time at the Hollywood library when she was 4, and that same year she got a typewriter for Christmas and began writing stories about her favorite stuffed animal. Katy also had a strong love of music, her mother noticed this and would reward her for doing chores around the house or lessons in her activity books with the promise of buying her records at Woolworth's or Thrifty's. By the time she was 5 years old, Katy had a large collection of records, mostly 45's, of diverse music of all types. Katy was constantly writing stories, choreographing dances, and dreaming of being in musicals as she watched movie musicals like "Sweet Charity", "There's No Business Like Show Business", "Seven Brides For Seven Brothers", "South Pacific", and more! The only thing she enjoyed more than a musical was a good horror movie. Her first horror movie was "The Gate" and it quickly became a favorite, being played on repeat every time they could rent it from the video store, along with "The Lost Boys", "Labyrinth" and "Legend". Her family, upon seeing how musical and creative she was, did what they could to support this talent and watched it grow. She started ballet at 4 years old, eventually branching out to jazz, tap, hip-hop and modern, but ballet was still her favorite. She continued to do ballet for 20 years before an ankle injury made her stop, but she still dances as much as her body will allow. She also started learning to read music and play piano that same year, and continued on to choir, jazz ensembles and musicals throughout school and her first attempt at college, but had to drop out to help her family when her father was diagnosed with lung cancer, and then five years later her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Both of her parents unfortunately lost their battles with the disease. During this time, Katy began hosting karaoke shortly after she turned 21. She loved everything about it and had the benefit of having a good ear for music, so she quickly picked up on how to adjust sound and make the show and the singers sound great! Other than performing, it was what she loved more than anything in the world. After her mother passed away when Katy was 28, she started her own karaoke business called Katybelle Productions. She has successfully ran this business for going on 9 years, but is on a hiatus during the 2020 pandemic. When the pandemic hit, she thought about needing to find another way to make money while the bars were shut down, so she has started studying real estate, is doing continuing education classes to get her travel agent certification, and studying voice over with Randy Hames. She recently got her first audio book, and is very excited to see where this part of her life takes her. She will also be going to UNLV next year(2021) to finish her music degree she started long ago, with the dream of being a choir director and voice teacher.
