Peter Gee is an Australian television presenter, best known for his association with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation where he worked for 38 years as a sports commentator and news presenter. Born in Geelong, Gee attended a radio school in Melbourne before completing a two-year stint at Colac radio station 3CS in the late 1970's. Gee started working for the ABC in 1980, covering various sporting events for ABC Sport as well as hosting programs such as Sports Night and the annual ABC Sports Awards. Gee lists a career highlight as calling the 1500m freestyle event at the 1996 Summer Olympics in which Australian swimmer Kieran Perkins won gold. After 18 years of covering sport for the ABC, Gee was appointed as chief newsreader for ABC News Tasmania in 1998. In addition to reading news on ABC Television in Tasmania, Gee also presented afternoon bulletins on ABC Radio Hobart and ABC Northern Tasmania. In July 2018, Gee announced his retirement. After 20 years of reading the Tasmanian edition of ABC News in Hobart, Gee presented his final news bulletin on 3 August 2018. Upon his retirement, Gee received tributes from Tasmanian Premier Will Hodgman, Geelong coach Chris Scott, SBS cycling commentator Mike Tomalaris, and ABC Grandstand commentator Alister Nicholson. Former ABC news editor Andrew Fisher also said it was Gee's popularity which had helped the Tasmanian news bulletin become the highest rating ABC News bulletin in Australia.
