Pat Regan was born in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England in 1955. After one of her six sons Danny Regan was murdered in 2002, she spent the next six years of her life campaigning against gun and knife crime. She founded the "Mother's Against Violence" (MAV) organisation. She met Tony Blair, Princess Anne and many more influential people during her campaigns. She was killed by her grandson Rakeim Regan, who she had been desperately trying to get sectioned, shortly before she was sue to appear in the documentary Kids, Knives, Broken Lives (2008).
