Toms Harjo

Raised in a family of Jehovah's Witnesses. At the age of 20 he escaped the religion and brought his experience as a cult survivor to his critically acclaimed staged photography series "In the Truth". He continued to develop his visual approach using photography and film and in 2018 he started theatre drama acting studies led by legendary theatre director Alvis Hermanis. During studies he started playing main roles in The New Riga Theatre when in 2022 he graduated and became part of The New Riga Theatre actor troupe. In the same year he merged his visual art practise with acting and directed his debut feature film Shoal (2022) starring his course mates from drama school and himself. He also got nominated for the Latvian theatre prize as The New Performing Artist.
