Steve Litteral was born in 1975 in Rockford, Illinois. His father is from West Virginia and his mother is from Arkansas. He went to public schools in Rockford, and graduated from Rockford East High School in 1993. A few weeks after graduating high school, Steve joined the United States Army as an airborne infantryman (paratrooper). He went to Ft. Benning, Georgia for basic training, infantry school, and airborne school. He later served in the 82nd Airborne Division (1/505 PIR) at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, Ft. Kobbe, Panama in the Canal Zone, and Camp Greaves on the DMZ in South Korea. After two enlistments, Steve left the Army as a Sergeant (E-5) to attend college on the GI Bill in 2000. Steve attended and graduated from Rock Valley College (AA degree), Northern Illinois University (BA in history), and Norwich University (MA in military history). He joined the team at the Tinker Swiss Cottage Museum & Gardens in Rockford, Illinois after graduating from college. Steve spent most of his career at the museum as the Executive Director. Steve and his family moved to Clarksville, Tennessee in 2018 after his wife was offered a new position with her work. He is now working on his writing and taking his family on adventures around their new home in the beautiful state of Tennessee.
