With a background as a DJ and in art and design, Reuben's debut feature - Routes: Dancing to New Orleans (2008) - a dance road-movie during Hurricane Katrina - was selected in the 'Top 20 Movies of the Decade' (Geoff Andrew, BFI), 'Top 5 Cinematic Moments of the Year' (Little White Lies) and was Gala Screening at Festival dei Popoli, documentary film festival. Reuben writes and directs choreo-geographic movies, exhibited internationally and throughout the UK by Picturehouse, Curzon, HOME Manchester, BFI and ICA cinemas. Characterised by improvisation, dance and sound, they explore connections between art, politics and cognition. His most recent film, Gingerella (RockaFela) (2018) - an improvised essay about improvisation - was Gala screening at Light Moves Festival of Screendance. Recent events include Moving Humans (Tate Modern), and A Conversation with Alex Reuben and James Lasdun (New York Institute for the Humanities, The Center for Ballet and the Arts, NYU).
