Alessio Cuomo is a Dutch/Italian filmmaker who studied at the School of Journalism in Utrecht, The Netherlands. During his study he quickly developed a natural hunger to explore all aspects of the world of filmmaking and documentaries. He made his first short films in Mexico about the rock band Maldita Vecindad, and in Romania about street children addicted to inhaling a colorant used in chroming called Aurolac. After his internship at NOVA, a Dutch late-evening current affairs programme, he started his career as a freelance news reporter for several national and international TV stations such as BBC World, VPRO and RVU. In 2008 he directed the documentary Cuba RebelióN, about Cuban protest singers who rebel against the Castro regime. After this film he founded his own production company ColdSun Productions. In 2013 he made the documentary Gesso, the Art of Street Painting, about the worldwide movement of pavement art. This 'road movie' tells the story of street painting through the eyes and hands of seven artists, coming from very different social and artistic backgrounds, but united by their passion for pavement art. For his film projects Cuomo filmed in countries such as Cuba, USA, Syria, Lebanon, Russia, Argentina, Mexico, Italy and many more.
