Akira Komatsu studied at Musicians Institute of Technology (MI) / GIT in 1996-7 after graduating Waseda University in Tokyo Japan. He studied under Jeff Richman mainly contemporary jazz and also absorbed varied kinds of music. The music he studied with Jeff were not so-called jazz standards, those were cutting edge original compositions of contemporary artists. That variety of music was a great influence on him and it inspires him when he composes especially for movies and other video works. Some music included a portion hard or better not to analyze but sounds fabulous great and meeting such compositions without usual customs made his eyes open to another level. He received GIT Human Relation Award was chosen by popular vote by all students at graduation. He decided for himself to come back to Hollywood someday to pursue his career as a professional musician. He had taught at MI/GIT Tokyo after coming back to Japan and been in charge of classes of universal material as ear training, music theory, score reading and open counseling that he prepared his original stuff to focus on what he specialized in. In addition to music instructor and freelance guitarist, he was playing in several bands in Tokyo. He was leading my band playing his composition and his music gradually had grabbed film director's and actor's attention, then he began to make a commitment to composing for films. He composes for top class directors or video artists in Japan and has established trust with them. He began working for commercials on TV or radio afterward, for example, "Precure" series is a very popular TV anime program among children and he composed for the TV commercial of toys appearing in the program produced by BANDAI Co., Ltd. prominent company in Japan.
