Born and raised in White Plains, Alabama with no theatre or drama department in sight, Alex McFry wrangled his closest friends and a DSLR camera into a basement to create movies. When they all got to high school, The Adventures of McDorky was born as a way for Alex and all those around him to express themselves through characters born from his imagination. In 2019, Alex was the recipient of one of two of the first Colin Higgins Ambassador Awards, granting him a scholarship to attend the 72nd Festival de Cannes via The American Pavillion. While there, his film HEADS UP (2018) was chosen to be in the Pavilion's LGBTQ Emerging Filmmakers showcase. Alex graduated as a producing specialist with his MFA in Production at Florida State University's College of Motion Picture Arts in 2019. While at FSU, Alex spearheaded four 15-minute short films, each with influences of four different nationalities with stories from four very different backgrounds. In total, he crewed over 30 films in every position including director, producer, 1st AD, 2nd AD, director of photography, 1st AC, 2nd AC, key grip, BBE, gaffer, and editor to name a few. Alex currently lives in Los Angeles, California, and plans to continue telling stories of those underrepresented in entertainment.
