Conan McIvor is a Belfast-based filmmaker and video artist, his diverse practice spans from experimental film and video art to 'moving image' design for installation, theatre and performance. His work has been exhibited internationally in Trondheim, Sarajevo and Paris in a variety of exciting venues including a disused police station, freight container and sonic lab as well as traditional gallery spaces. He attended the University of Ulster, where he studied Interactive Multimedia Design before receiving an MA in Film and Visual Studies from Queen's University Belfast. During his studies he was awarded Northern Ireland Screen's Bill Miskelly Award. Following this, Conan became heavily involved with the work of CETL(NI): Centre for Excellence in the Creative and Performing Arts at Queen's, the latter providing varied opportunities for collaborative work. Late 2013, Conan was appointed as the lead artist for the OU's public art commission "Luminous, Curious, Journey", he showcased a large-scale video installation on the lawn of Belfast City Hall with further installations at the Open University Building, May Street. During this time he was awarded the Visual Artists Ireland & Digital Arts Studio Residency Award to develop a body of work for exhibition (Untouchable, 'Denizen', Belfast Exposed, 2014). Conan's latest video art piece "My Heart's a Flutter" was selected for exhibition at the 133rd Royal Ulster Academy Exhibition. Conan's work concentrates on the metaphysics of the human condition exploring spirituality, relationships, the corporeal and the unfolding of consciousness with an ever-present undercurrent of the ethereal.
