Giovanni Buccomino studied at the University of Rome and gained a Masters in History and Philosophy. While studying he worked in the sound field moving from music to film. In 2010 he wrote and directed his first feature 'The Valley of the Moon', selected at Festival dei Popoli and Hot Docs among others. From 2011 he wrote and directed TV hours for international networks like AlJazeera and worked with INGOs, as well continuing to work for others as a sound designer. He is executive producer and sound designer on Naziha Arebi's feature Freedom Fields that premiered at TIFF in 2018. Since 2018 Giovanni became a Sundance fellow. In 2020 he wrote directed and produced the long short Untold Chaos for TheGuardian, presented at Sheffield Doc Fest. His feature After A Revolution, supported by RAI Cinema, MIC, Sundance Film Institute, Gucci Tribeca Film Fund amongst others, premiered at IDFA 2021 in the main competition. Giovanni carries on working as a sound designer and as author/director on documentaries for International networks and independent projects.
