Emily Jewer (she/her/they/them) is an actor, director, and artist from Toronto, ON, and based in Halifax, NS. They have pursued theatre since high school and through university, trying out many different roles both on and off stage, from acting to stage management to design during her BFA at Mount Allison University. Emily found a love of being on stage and continued to pursue work and more training in acting after graduating, enrolling in Neptune Theatre's Pre-Professional Training Program. Since then, Emily has had the chance to work with several amazing emerging theatre companies in Halifax, including Up the Hill Theatre Company, acting in their Merritt winning show Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind, 30/60, and the Merritt nominated Spirits. Around the same time, Emily began to take an interest in directing and was given the opportunity to direct Doubt, a Parable at The Theatre Arts Guild, which was named in The Coast's list of Top 10 Theatre Productions of 2014. Afterward, she continued to pursue directing, working with Whale Song Theatre on the sold-out run of Heathers the Musical in 2017, and then assistant directing Salt Water Moon at Neptune Theatre in 2018. In 2018/2019 she was part of Neptune Theatre's inaugural Chrysalis Project in the directing stream, and assistant directed Shakespeare in Love, KAMP, and Hamlet. The final part of the project had Emily directing their own piece in the Chrysalis Director's Showcase. She chose to adapt Brecht's short play The Jewish Wife into a not-to-distant-future dystopian tale, focusing on LGBTQ+ issues. Emily continues to work both as an actor and director. Transitioning into film work they have worked on some short films, Smoulder and The Assistant, and several tv shows, Diggstown, Haven, and The Mist. Though very different from theatre, Emily finds film work an exciting challenge and hopes to foray into film directing within the next year. As an active and proud member of the 2SLBGTQIA+ community Emily seeks to bring their community's voices to the forefront of her work and to mainstream media. As a bisexual, non-binary, woman she is open to auditioning for both women and non-binary roles and especially enjoys creating characters that relate to their experiences, though she is always excited by every opportunity to create any character.
