Alberto Portillo hails from Los Angeles, California. The son of hardworking immigrants from Central America, he found escape from the crushing normalcy of the early-2000s, through the politically charged and expressive music of Rage Against the Machine, The Roots, and Common. Inspired, he began writing short stories and poetry that expressed his unrepresented socio-economic frustrations as a young Latino in Los Angeles. After high school, Alberto reconnected with his faith and moved to San Jose CA to study Theology at a Christian college. After meeting the woman of his dreams and getting married, he moved back to Los Angeles and began exploring the world of cinema. He enrolled into the UCLA Extension Feature Film Screenwriting Program and garnished an award for his first short film Relentless Heart, made it as a finalist with his first feature script Rajini and received various other nominations all before completing the 18 month certificated program. Upon completion, Alberto wrote his second feature 90 Minutes for a small independent production company and ventured into the realm of comedy with his acclaimed comedy short Inspector Sanchez, which is currently circulating various film festivals around the world. Alberto is enjoying his new found partnership with fellow UCLA Extension classmate, Sergio Marcos in the development of Martillo Pictures. More recently, Alberto has developed, produced, and pitched TV and Film content with Redfoo to various networks such as E!, MTV, eOne and One Media Worldwide -- resulting in a reality show and feature film development deal. Having production experience from conception to delivery, Alberto aims to use his experience to create film and TV content that is entertaining yet thought provoking and uplifting through his production company Calanda Films.
