Based in Melbourne, Australia, Tom Ryan has been writing for newspapers and specialist film magazines for more than 30 years. He also lectured on film at universities in Australia and the UK from the 1970s to the late 1990s. He has edited books on Baz Luhrmann and Fred Schepisi for the University Press of Mississippi's Conversations with Filmmakers series and is working on a third in that series about Alan J. Pakula. He also wrote The Films of of Douglas Sirk: Exquisite Ironies and Magnificent Obsessions for UPM .
