Matthew Gross moved to Los Angeles August 8, 1996 with the expectation of becoming an overnight success. That was not to be the case. Matthew quickly fell on hard times; however, that October his prospects changed. He happened upon the Bob Baker Marionette Theater near downtown Los Angeles, and the rest is history. Matthew was immediately hired to perform marionettes -- six shows per week. He remained at Bob Baker's puppet theater for eighteen months. Afterwards, Matthew signed on to appear in eight performances of "The Magic Flute" presented through the LA Opera. When the opera contract expired, Matthew redirected his focus back to acting. He tracked down Emmy/Clio Awards winning actress Vernee Watson-Johnson who agreed to coach him in the techniques of commercial acting. A year later, Matthew landed his first national commercial (Home Depot).
