A native of California's Bay Area, Arwen Curry grew up in a household without a television set but with many books, which is ironic in that she has had a successful career as a TV producer but explains in part her involvement in documentaries about authors such as Susan Sontag and most recently Ursula K.Le Guin. She received a graduate degree from the University of California at Berkeley School of Journalism and edited the punk music magazine, Maximum Rocknroll, from 1998 through 2004.Her specialty in reporting has been on Science, for the San Francisco based public station KQED.
