Jon McDonald was born in Los Angeles, CA. After attending the Art Center in Pasadena, California, Jon went on to lead teams of artists as a concept designer and storyboard artist for animated and live action films. He wrote and directed his first live action short film Chagrin in 2011. Shortly after, in 2014, he made his directorial feature film debut with Muddy Corman, starring Kevin Corrigan (The Departed, Superbad, The Get Down) and Ellen Greene (Little Shop of Horrors, The Professional). It was successfully presented at Sundance's Directors Lab. McDonald's next feature film, The Hyperions is set for its nationwide theatrical release by Saban films in February 2022. Written and directed by Jon McDonald, the film stars Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride, Saw, Robin Hood: Men in Tights) as the eccentric leader of a super hero team in the 1960's. A true auteur, McDonald is known for his involvement in every aspects of his films. From writing to prop design, to storyboarding and visual effects.
