Johanna is a performance artist, actor, and writer. Johanna honed her craft performing in NYC's alternative comedy circuit and the eclectic "Art Star" community on Manhattan's lower east side from 2002 - 2005. She was featured in Reverend Jen Miller's first issue of Art Star Scene (A.S.S.) Magazine alongside other notable female Art Stars. Her blog, "Hi, I'm Johanna Buccola" (2002-2009) was a mix of comedic musings, non-sequiters, and personal diaries of her characters Pam, Nikki, and Ruby; it later became an advice column called "Dear Johanna" in which Johanna authored letters to herself and responded with often questionable advice. Johanna studied acting and improvisation at Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in NYC and the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. She is also a ballet dancer and was chosen to attend the prestigious Summer Dance Lab at Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA at age 17. She is at work on her latest solo theater piece in Seattle, WA and her latest role in a production by indie film director Paco Jones.
