Graduated from The Royal Academy in the UK and is the Director of Nicholsons Academy of Screen Acting (NASA) in Perth providing comprehensive screen acting training for over 23 years. Design and delivery of a range of quality screen acting courses ranging from ongoing weekly courses to formal tertiary training. The architect and author of the nationally accredited Diploma in Screen Acting, which was run through the Film and Television Institute in Perth. In addition to being the creator and course coordinator Fern was Head Lecturer of this course, which ran from 2009-2012. Students who have graduated from the Diploma course have gone onto involvement in the industry in acting, teaching, writing and directing. NASA's term courses are targeted to the serious actor interested in exploring and practicing a range of approaches to screen acting to expand and consolidate their understanding of the craft, hone their skills and broaden their range. Some industry successes achieved by students include high level auditions and roles for TV pilots, TV Series, Short Films and Feature Films. Some of the student awards include the 2015 Heath Ledger Scholarship winner, Mr Cody Fern who is now one of the cast of US Netflix series 'House of Cards' and the 2016 Casting Network Australia Sirius winner, Katherine Langford, who later went on to lead popular Netflix Series, '13 Reasons Why'. Another is Phoenix Rae, who has just finished his series regular role on Stan's 'Romper Stomper' and now in new Perth TV Series 'The Heights'. Other work: * Written and developed a Certificate II in Screen Acting and Personal Development - developed for Filmbites Youth Film School which will be available for all public and private schools in Western Australia. * Teaching Youth At Risk - West Coast College - TAFE (Joodalup) * Chosen out of 400 teachers to teach at the prestigious French Woods Summer School in New York State, an elite performing arts camp for Hollywood celebrity youth. After the 'Best Actress' award at the Western Australian Screen Academy Awards in 2014 which was presented by Jack Thompson, Fern has decided just this year (2018) to go back to the professional acting arena scooping up a few credits already these past few months.
