Dave Long

Dave was born in Dublin, Ireland. He started out on the piano accordion however in teen years quickly switched to the acoustic guitar where songwriting just came naturally. Having won prizes in singing and songwriting competitions Dave ended up in recording studios as a session singer as well as recording his own compositions which were aired on various radio stations. Taking up the electric guitar Dave became the lead guitarist/singer in many bands performing in most of the well known Dublin rock venues. To feed his musical habit Dave was a qualified electrician and during the recession in the early eighties Dave joined actors equity and got a variety of 'extras' work in TV ads and a film called 'Cal'. Dave heard a fellow songwriter's recording which included a sax player named Trish and became a real fan wearing out the tape listening to the solos. The same songwriter was organising a music session with a view to starting a band, once Dave found out Trish was going to be there he booked the rehearsal studio and got more musicians involved. That band didn't materialize but when Dave and Trish met by accident over a year later they formed a music duo called 'Interfusion' and performed widely on the Dublin scene as well as performing live to air on the 'Davis At Large' TV show. They then received a call to appear in an episode of the upcoming RTE drama series 'Inside' to act as a couple of musicians, a bit of stretch but they pulled it off!! Dave married Trish July 4th 1986 and migrated to Australia where they performed under the name 'Sahara'. Dave has performed on TV in Australia on all the major networks including an interview on the ABC TV evening news when Sahara's song 'Make My Day' was voted number one on the first Internet music charts based in New York for four consecutive weeks. Dave as part of Sahara has released six CDs 'Thinking of You', 'Vision', 'Sahara Live @ The Malthouse', 'A New Beginning', 'There is this place I go', 'See all that's before me' and the environmental rock single 'Only This World'. 2016 finds Dave working on new material in between coffee breaks!
