Alecs Nastoiu was born in November, 1982 in Bucharest, Romania. As a child, he was attracted to puzzles, magic (tricks) and mathematics. None of these elements conducts us to think of his desire to pursue a career in film. He did not know that as well. But these small pleasures outlined his personality and have led to his choice in profession. As in cinematography, you have to be very calculated, you must pay a lot of attention to details, you must solve complex situations, you have to be patient and you have to catch the interest of the viewers in a pleasant way. All in one: math, puzzles, and magic. In 2007, Alecs got his degree in film and television directing at the University of Drama and Cinematography "IL Caragiale" (UNATC) in Bucharest. Since that moment, Alecs wrote and directed various projects, including short and feature films, commercials, or music videos. So far, his best-known work is Billion Star Hotel, a feature film which multiple awards and selections at festivals around the world. Not one time Alecs has proved he is a versatile artist. He edits some of his video projects; he worked in advertising industry; he publishes books; he coordinates a cultural NGO, developing projects for young people with economic, geographical, or social difficulties; during his spare time, Alecs practices photography; in 2009 and 2018 he founded two short film festivals in Bucharest (SHORT to the Point ISFF) and Moscow (Moscow Shorts ISFF).
