Farrah ALHashem or known as Farrah Zaine is an award-winning Kuwaiti -Lebanese filmmaker & journalist based in Paris. Born in Kuwait, raised between Beirut, New York, London and Los Angeles. In 2009 ALHashem Graduated from Lebanese American University (LAU) with a BA in Communication Arts in Beirut, and received her Masters of Fine Arts (M.F.A) in Cinematography and filmmaking from New York Film Academy in New York and LA 2013. ALHashem has been taught by renowned Hollywood directors like the Late Gary Marshal and his son Scott Marshal, Kevin Spacey, Steven Spielberg and supervised by award-winning cinematographer Piero Basso at NYFA Universal Studios Campus in Hollywood. In 2013 while working as a diplomatic advisor for Kuwait Mission to the UN in New York HQ, she has made her first critically acclaimed short film "7hours" that toured over 31 cities around the world part of its award as "Best Short Film" in European Film Festival Paris 2014 in the Arab Category. The film grossed international success by landing another 2 wins at the Santa Monica Film Festival in California, as "Best Acting" & "Best Screenplay." ALHashem has established her own film house entitled "VioletSkye Films" in 2014 in Beirut and the company is registered in Lebanon as a production company dedicated only in creating content for web and cinema. In 2015, ALHashem released her critically acclaimed and award-winning debut feature-doc film Breakfast in Beirut. After touring the world, the film has received enormous media attention and recognition in Italy, Egypt, Lebanon, Kuwait, Paris and Australia. In 2015 as well ALHashem has decided to release unedited footage, behind the scenes of Breakfast in Beirut under a web-series on youtube entitled" Beirut secrets" that follows the life of the filmmaker ALHashem while living in Beirut. In 2017 ALHashem has released her second feature film "ces petits riens"which will tour in International festivals starting fall 2017. ALHashem is a visual artist who works on side projects, and publishes seasonal pieces in Arabic, French and English on Prelude Magazine.
