John Bryant

Professor John Bryant is a biologist based at Exeter University and has many years of experience in research on the biochemistry of genes. He also has a keen interest in bioethical issues. He introduced one of the first bioethics courses for biology students in a UK university and runs workshops for biologists on teaching ethics. He has co-authored a book explaining bioethical issues for Christian non-scientists as well as a textbook, Introduction to Bioethics, for university students. John speaks frequently on issues in bioethics and in the science-religion debate. He also writes regularly on bioethics, both in a specifically Christian context and for 'secular' readerships. He was Chair of Christians in Science between 2001 and 2007 and President of the Society for Experimental Biology from 2003 to 2005. John is married to Marje, who is a counsellor, and they have two children and three grandchildren. He loves mountains, marshes and other wild places and enjoys bird-watching. He is a keen runner, a Bob Dylan fan and supports Crystal Palace football club.
