Nara Normande was born in Guaxuma (Maceió/Alagoas) and later moved to Recife, where a new generation of Brazilian directors was about to rise. In 2011 she directed her first short, "Dia Estrelado" (Habana Film Festival) and In 2014 she co-directed with Tião "Sem Coração", winner of the Illy Prize of best short film at Cannes' Director's Fortnight. In 2018, her third short "Guaxuma", co-produced with France, mixes several animation techniques connected to sand and was selected to Annecy and TIFF's competition, winning several awards including Best Animation at SXSW and Best International Short at Palm Springs. "Guaxuma" was also shortlisted for the César Awards. She is developing her first feature film "Heartless", co-directed by Tião and produced by Emilie Lesclaux ("Bacurau" - Jury Prize at Cannes Film Festival) and co-produced by french company Les Valseurs (César of Best Animated Short for "Villaine Fille").
