J.M. Benjamin, is an Essence Best Selling, Black Expressions and Award Winning Author, hailing from Plainfield New Jersey. He has gone on to pen a sleuth of urban tales and several non-fiction motivational pieces. In addition, J.M. has contributed to several anthologies, with some of Urban fiction's most notable. One in particular, he adapted into a screenplay (Moves We Make 2016) based on his contribution in the African American Literary Award Winning Anthology, The Massacre, titled "Check Mate". Since then, J.M.'s short feature has received many accolades at indie film festivals, such as Martha's Vineyards 14th Annual Black Film Festival and receiving Honorable Mention for the 2016 Paul Robeson Award at the Newark Black Film Festival, which makes him a proud award winning screenplay writer. His upcoming short film, which he wrote, titled, Worth Dying For, will be his first project as a Director and Producer. It is scheduled for production December, 2016. Mr. Benjamin is also an entrepreneur, motivational speaker and mentor. He has been recognized for his literary accomplishments and his worldwide community service in The New York Times, NJN News, Vibe, ABC, Fox & CBS News as well as the Wendy Williams Experience. In a little over 10 years, J.M. has managed to accomplish all of this and more after being incarcerated and released from federal and state prison for over a dozen years. J.M.'s upbringing provided him with the necessary tools that he now uses ,through his writing, to capture and display the reality and horrors of the street life. He uses his work to encourage and inspire others to pursue their dreams and goals. Mr. Benjamin exemplifies the meaning of, "It's Never too late." He continues to prove that you do not have to become a product of your environment or a statistic. Upon signing a major deal with Carl Weber (Man In 3-B) (Author/Publisher/Screen Writer/Producer/Director), J.M. has managed to sell well over a quarter million copies of his bodies of literary work independently. His grass root approach and relentless pursuit,has landed him multi six-figured literary deals. His choice to adapt his screenplays to films is inspired by the hope that he can be a positive influence on those affected by incarceration and socioeconomic hardships who may feel that their dreams are out of reach.
