Alyson Dunlop

Alyson Dunlop was born in Ayr. She went to drama college in Glasgow at the age of 18. She did a further course in drama and theatre arts at Falkirk College 1996-7, playing Elizabeth Proctor in "The Crucible". At the University of Glasgow, whilst studying classics, she played Phaedra in Euripides' "Hippolytus". The following year, she directed her own adaptation of the Roman novel the "Satyricon" by Petronius, which was staged for the first time in history in the Glasgow University Union Debating Chambers. In 2007, she merged together Euripides' "Bacchae" and Burns' "Tam 'O Shanter", in which, as well as directing it, Alyson also played the part of a belly dancer in the chorus. In 2010, Alyson left the University of Glasgow with a Post Graduate Certificate in Film and Television Studies. During her time in the Film and TV Department, she studied the conventions of the slasher horror film, the image of the Final Girl in slasher movies and symbolism in horror. In 2012, she published several works including a book called "Nods to the Old Gods". A few months later she also finished a screenplay for her first ever film: "Hogmanay", a slasher horror in which she plays the character of Jamie Campbell. "Hogmanay" is still on hold until funding can be obtained. Alyson was recently in a short horror for the Horror Channel's 666 Short Cuts to Hell Competition, called Six Feet Under. Alyson now writes a weekly blog called "Hex in the City".
