Emma Sophie Ongode

Adel Emmah Sophie Ongode is a fast rising Kenyan actress. Her major breakthrough was when she landed a role to play the role of Adel in the much awaited film Pearls Of Africa. She has recently done other projects among them being a short film on Post Election Violence experienced in Kenya and a local television series called Checkmates. She has also starred in Secrets directed by Amanda Vibelageo, The Briefcase Inc. and an infomercial for IIEC alongside well-known Kenyan comedian Jalang'o. In Pearls of Africa, Sophie plays the role of Adel, Tess' best friend, who is torn between her friendship and her cultural beliefs. Her passion for acting and the desire to become a professional actress grew as she participated in high school plays, leading her to undertake a degree in Drama and Theatre studies from the Department of Creative and Performing Arts at Maseno University. While there, Sophie took part in numerous plays and achieved a BA in Drama and Theatre Arts. After finishing university, Sophie undertook an internship at the Phoenix players, the leading professional theatre company in East Africa. She majored in research and play selection, pre-production logistics, casting management, stage management, lighting and sound operation, directing, production design and management. She also has a passion for stage plays and her recent play she acted in titled "The Jury" Other than stage and film acting, Sophie is also a re-known Theatre arts tutor. She has previously taught in Oshwal Academy Nairobi and is currently the Drama teacher at Nairobi Academy-Karen teaching both A level and O level.
