Jacques de Beaufort is an artist and filmmaker living in West Palm Beach, Florida where he is an Associate Professor of Visual Art at Palm Beach State College. After growing up in the DC area, he lived in worked in Los Angeles for over a decade after graduating from California Institute of the Arts in 2000 before recently relocating to the "Ballardian" world of South Florida. Over the last decade de Beaufort has worked steadily towards the construction of a unique and visionary cosmology expressed through his paintings and films. It is a world in which luminous beings stare back at the viewer through the masks of ancient archetypal forms that threaten to pierce the mundane veil of the everyday. His paintings evince that Mystery yet remains embedded in the art object as a defiant magic in a world of sterile fact. De Beaufort has forged a path through the labyrinth of ancient consciousness to reveal for the viewer a vast pantheon of supernatural beings and hidden metaphysical structures that we had forgotten how to see. His work in cinema is a natural extension of the world he has created with paint, and has been noted for its lush hypnotic and lyrical qualities. De Beaufort's first feature length film "Sanctum and Sacrum" is just now touring the Film Festivals.
