Yulin Ng

Yulin Ng was born in the city-state of Singapore on the 12th of July 1989 to Singaporean parents. She is one of three daughters. Her father is a former electrical engineer, and her mother is a former accountant. Her older sister, Yuhui Ng, is a Melbourne-based performance-maker, while her younger sister, is a medical doctor-in-training, also based in Australia. Yulin studied at Tanjong Katong Girls' School in Singapore, then moved to Australia when she was 17, where she did her pre-university studies at Trinity College at the University of Melbourne, Australia. She continued her studies at the University of Queensland, Australia, graduating with a BA in Psychology with a minor in Film & Television Studies. In 2013, she moved back to Singapore and began her formal actor training at LASALLE College of the Arts (accredited by Goldsmiths, University of London), graduating with a BA (Hons) Acting in 2016. Since then, she has worked as a screen and stage actor, writer and theatre-maker. In addition to acting, Yulin is skilled in a variety of performance skills including singing, dancing, martial arts, guitar, drums, piano and horse-riding. In film and TV, Yulin has starred in "Hello, Goodbye" (2016), by Cannes Film Festival nominee Boo Junfeng, Chai Yee Wei's "Sister" (2019), part of the inaugural 15 Shorts project, "Rice Wine Chicken" (2017), by award-winning director Ang Geck Geck, "Forget Us Not" (2018), a short film commissioned by the Lien Foundation, Okto's quirky science infotainment "Make Me A Super" (2016), HOOQ's pilot episode of "How To Be A Good Girl" (2018), opposite Tan Kheng Hua and Oon Shu An in, and plays the lead in the brand new international children's TV series, "Kooki's Crafty Show" (2019), which airs all over the world, including the UK, Australia, the US, Asia, the Middle-East, Latin America, Europe and Africa. She was also in Li Lin Wee's "Baby Bumps" (2016), LA Web Series "Winner What Do Men Want?" (2013), by the award-winning BananaMana Films, and Mediacorp's "Missing" (2017), Upside Down (2017), "Tanglin" (2017), "Lion Mums" (2016), "Fiends and Foes" (2015), and "Recession Heroes" (2013). Yulin's theatre credits include "Eva", an original solo work which was selected for SOLO FEST 2019, "Daughters of Eve", a site-specific iteration of "Eva" in 2018 that was workshopped during the CREA Arts Residency, "A Peter Rabbit Tale, The Musical" (2017) by the Singapore Repertory Theatre, "The Hummingbird" (2016), written by award-winning writer Zizi Azah and directed by award-winning director Edith Podesta, Sarah's Kane's "4.48 Psychosis" (2015) directed by Natalie Hennedige, "Revolutionary Model Play 2.0" (2015) by Wang Chong of Beijing's Théâtre du Rêve's, "Top Girls" (2015) directed by Steve Dixon and Budi Miller's staging of "Scorched" (2014). She has also been invited back yearly to play guest starring roles in the cross-cultural dance theatre productions of Kirana Seni, including "Bunga Tanjong" (2016), "Kenangan" (2017) and in 2019, "Wisma Geylang Serai", where she had the honour of performing for the Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr Lee Hsien Loong. She has also done staged readings for Checkpoint Theatre, including Oon Shu An's "#UnicornMoment'" (2017) and critically acclaimed playwright, Huzir Sulaiman's, "Occupation" (2019). Yulin is also a movement artist. She worked with Alexandra Pirici in the staging of "Recollection" (2018) at the NTU Centre of Contemporary Arts, and with Sarah Swenson, when The National Gallery of Singapore brought over Simon Forti's "Dance Constructions" (2019) from the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
