Sergio E. Avilés was born in Saltillo, Coahuila, México. He is the author of the comic strip "Ping Pong" and the books, "Me enamoré de una cucaracha," "Antes de ser," Coahuila, espejismo pleno", "indi-Gestión Pública" and the novel "El nombre del gato," (also available in English as "The name of the cat"). He has worked as a producer for Guillermo Arriaga in the shorts "El pozo" and "La sangre de dios." He is also the writer/director of the short films "Fin del mundo" and "Piloto." Avilés graduated from the school of communications at Monterrey Tech in 1981. he has been the editor of the Ducks Unlimited Mexico magazine and Tetla-ni, a magazine for ITESM alumni. He has been a professor for magazine editing and design, photography, electronic publications design, script writing and cinema language at Monterrey Tech, Briham Young University, Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila and LaSalle University. He has also held the post of director general of Coahuila State Institute of Ecology, serves in the board of the Museum of Mexican Birds and is president of the board of the Federal Technical Forestry School "José Angel de la Cruz Campa" in his hometown.
