Derrick Gilliam was born to Joann Gilliam and Earl Black in Lansing, Michigan. He was raised by his stepfather Willie Florence and mother Joann Gilliam after his biological father Earl Black passed away from cancer. Derrick was a former High School and College basketball star at Lansing Sexton High School, Highland Park Community College and Sam Houston State University. Derrick played professional basketball over seas in Paraguay and Puerto Rico and worked out with the Miami Heat players Voshon Lenard, Jamal Mashburn, and Tim Hardaway. Although Derrick went to college on a basketball scholarship acting has always been a love of his. Derrick got his start in acting when he was asked to play Tyler Perry's stand-in for the movie Alex Cross in 2011. Since then the acting bug bit Derrick and he has been going full steam ahead landing more and more roles. Derrick is married to Tameka Gilliam and they have 5 children, Rayshawn Devon Blackmon, Dominic Devon Gilliam, Danyae'Pugh, Denver Devonna Gilliam, and Dash Devon Gilliam. Derrick has 2 brothers, Brandon Gilliam and Jason Black and 1 sister Tammy Black and 2 grand-kids Zara & Dillon.
