Emtithal (Emi) Mahmoud is an Actor and Writer known for Haleema (2006) and TED Talks (2017). She is Sudanese-American from Darfur, born October 5, 1993 in Khartoum. Emi is a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador and World Champion Poet who advocates for refugees and disadvantaged communities worldwide. Emi was named one of BBC's 100 Most Inspirational Women, Emi co-founded a Sickle Cell research initiative at age 19. She's since worked with President Obama, the Dalai Lama, Google Zeitgeist and more. Emi has moved audiences at the UNGA, The World Economic Forum, Forbes 30 Under 30, countless high-level events. The young TED Speaker, award-winning slam poet, & author graduated from Yale in 2016. In 2017, she hosted the first fully inclusive civilian peace talks across Sudan; Emi then, in 2018, walked 1000km for peace, mobilizing thousands of people across the way through her One Girl Walk and Dreams for Peace Initiatives. Emi was recently featured as one of the Harper's Bazaar New Change-makers of 2020 alongside several other groundbreaking artists, leaders, and entrepreneurs. Her videos have garnered millions of views and her advocacy has affected positive change across various sectors, as she fosters an environment of inclusivity and meaningful collaboration throughout the world, one groundbreaking initiative at a time.
