Katie Kopajtic

Katie Kopajtic is a writer, filmmaker and theatre artist based in New York City. She is newly smitten with the personal essay. Within one year of her first nonfiction writing class she was accepted into the Tin House Summer Workshop and offered publication in Catapult. As an artist, she is drawn to the mythology of memory and the fantasies that arrive when considering ancestral heritage. Katie started filmmaking in 2013 when she wrote, produced and directed "BFA The Series", a ten-episode web series about theatre artists in Baltimore. Soon after, she set off to Rijeka, Croatia to direct the first core interviews in her documentary feature "Izvor Doma" (The Source of Home), which is now in post-production as a collaborative residency with Hunter College's film MFA program. In 2016 she formed Tres Brujas Productions with her partner Monica Robles and proceeded to direct her short comedic film "The Actor", which premiered at the New York Short Film Festival in 2018. Under Tres Brujas, Katie brought her solo show "Confessions of a Personal Trainer" to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2017, where it ran for a 26-show run amid four star reviews and sold out performances. In 2019 she premiered her hybrid film and theatre show "Modern Witches" at the Charm City Fringe Festival in Baltimore, which continued in Nashville, TN, as a performance-in-residence with The Barbershop Theatre. Finally, this year Katie co-founded and launched the application (app) Plumb. Inspired by the journaling practice of Virginia Woolf, and dismayed by her own decrease in journaling since social media took the place of paper journaling for reflection, Katie wanted a way to organize and collate everything she had written online into an easily navigable document. Thus, Plumb was born. Katie holds a B.F.A. in Acting from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
