Michael A. Lilly was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. His parents were Capt. P.A. (Tony) and Ginger Lilly. An honor graduate of the University of the Pacific's McGeorge School of Law, Michael served as Hawaii's Attorney General and First Deputy Attorney General (1981-85) and was a partner in the Honolulu law firm Ning Lilly & Jones until his retirement in 2019. A decorated Vietnam War Veteran, Michael served three years on active duty and 27 in the reserve, retiring as a Navy Captain. He is a Founding Director of the USS Missouri Memorial Association which relocated the Battleship to Pearl Harbor as a memorial and one of Hawaii's most successful tourist attractions. In the movie Battleship, Michael was seen "blown up" by an alien peg bomb. Michael authored "Nimitz at Ease", chronicling how his grandparents, Una and Sandy Walker, gave Fleet Admiral Nimitz time and space away from the pressures of commanding the largest armed forces in history, thereby helping him win the war in the Pacific. He also authored "If You Die Tomorrow", a layman's guide to estate planning and is a frequent speaker on legal topics at seminars and on radio and television. Michael has long been active in charitable associations in Hawaii. He is married to internationally renown quilt author, lecturer and TV host Cindy Walter, has four children and lives in Hawaii.
