Dutch filmmaker Joeri Pruys graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Art in The Hague and started his career as a pop art painter. After a short career in the arts, Pruys changed course and started making films, experimenting with surreal imagery, a collage-like use of music, and at times somewhat daring subject matter. He directed, wrote and produced several short films, helped develop and manage the multi-director feature film Rotterdam, I Love You, and wrote and co-produced the mid-length adventure film The Blue Virgin (2018) starring Pierre Bokma and Sytske van der Ster. Pruys writes essays about film and media, and regularly works as a teacher and coach to aspiring filmmakers.
