The Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali (word by word: "the Musical Afternoons Orchestra") is an Italian orchestra established in 1945 in Milan, Lombardy. Since its first concert, the peculiarity of this orchestra has been to feature programs matching classical repertoire with contemporary music pieces. In its early days, it made a substantial contribution to popularizing works by 20th century-composers who had been previously banned under the Fascist regime, including Berg, Webern, Stravinskij, Hindemith a. o. Such composers as Hindemith, Honegger, Dallapiccola, Petrassi, Penderecki have conducted their music with this orchestra. Notable conductors who were on the podium include Sergiu Celibidache, Carlo Maria Giulini, Claudio Abbado, Leonard Bernstein, Zubin Mehta, Pierre Boulez, Riccardo Muti, Riccardo Chailly.
