English performer and actor Mark Clay started performing as a living mannequin/human statue in 1989. Originally born in Birmingham, he has lived in London since 1980. Mark has been fascinated by the art of the living statue since seeing someone on TV trying to break the Word record for standing still when he was a child. He later read an article about the fate of an Italian living statue caught an argument about whether he was real or not, the doubter eventually stabbed the statue to prove the point, although hospitalised, the living statue performer survived. In 1992 Mark started performing at exhibition centres around the UK. Mark has appeared on UK TV a number of times, mostly in character, but in 2010, he allowed a film crew to follow him, allowing rare insight into his life, as he performed at a number of events including the World Living Statues in Arnhem.
