Mithra Batol Alavi was born in Johnson City, Tennessee and spent every summer in Iran, starting when she was just two years old. Her mixed cultural background has been a constant source of inspiration for her writing and directing. Mithra graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Theater and Broadcasting from East Tennessee State University where she concentrated in acting. After discovering that her true passion lay behind the camera, she moved to Tallahassee to attend the College of Motion Picture Arts at Florida State University, where she earned her MFA in Film Production with a Concentration in Directing. While there, she wrote and directed the College Television Award Nominee "Three's a Crowd" and "Fathers & Daughters." After graduating in 2014, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her entertainment dreams. She spent her first year freelancing as an onset PA and personal assistant before joining the agent trainee program at APA Agency. She quickly moved up to work for the head of Physical Production, assisting in administrative tasks as well as client negotiations and contracts. In the Fall of 2017, she joined Myriad Pictures as the Coordinator for Development and Sales, participating in the development of new projects for production and in the major film markets for sales, including the European Film Market, Marche du Film, Toronto International Film Festival, and the American Film Market . She continues to write and develop her own projects including her current short film, "Leila's Gift" which has been selected as the Runner-Up for Screencraft's Short Film Competition, Women in Film's Production Program, and Hollyshorts. It is in post-production with a projected completion date of May 2020. Her screenplay Accidental Superhero is finished Top 10 in Screencraft's Action Adventure Screenplay Competition. Mithra was also a finalist for Ron Howard and Brian Grazer's content accelerator, Imagine Impact in 2019.
